CA Celebrates its 50th Anniversary

(1967-2017)

From Humble Beginnings to Leader in MAIS

CA started in 1967 with a few families coming together to form Copiah Educational Foundation, Inc.  The first campus was a used mobile home located near the old WMDC radio station on Highway 51 just north of Hazlehurst.

In 2017-18 school year CA has grown to over 730 students, a staff of nearly 80, and a 10-acre campus with facilities worth more than $4 million.  Our students consistently rank near the top in ACT scores and other achievement tests.

A new science and math building featuring the Robert Young Science lab was added in 2010 and four additional classrooms were added in 2013.  The Williams Elementary, containing the kindergarten classes, was erected in 1988, with additional classrooms added in 1989-1995.  The Cafetorium, with a full kitchen, performing arts stage, four classrooms and seating for 500+, was added in 1998.  The gym was air conditioned in 2016 and graduation and vespers services will return to the gym in May 2017.  Our sports facilities have been updated and modernized over the years with the addition of new lights, bathrooms, ball fields and concession facilities.

Our sporting events are streamed live via Wi-Fi at www.copiahstrong.com. This enterprise is sponsored by local businesses and reaches patrons and family members worldwide. Our classrooms are modernized with computer access and smart boards, with internet access in every room. We have two computer labs featuring up-to-date equipment.

What does CA need now???

We need a new band hall!  Our All-Superior marching band is the largest band in the MAIS (Miss. Association of Independent Schools—formerly MPSA).  Band students on average receive more than 40% of all scholarships earned by senior classes each year.

Our current 1400-square foot band hall is designed to hold about 50 musicians.  We now have over 120. Space is so cramped, our band cannot rehearse properly.  All funds raised during our 50th Anniversary celebration events will go to the band hall construction project.  Your generous tax deductible contributions will all go towards this project.  Estimated cost is $600,000.00
