Our school and the use of Accelerated Reader has grown. We still have access to every test that Renaissance Learning has made in the past and will make in the future. Approximately 150 tests are added every week! With the addition of all the tests and the new tests each week, it is impossible to keep up with an accurate print out. However, you may go online and search for available tests.
AR has updated their server and are now providing a new way to search for tests. You may go to http://www.arbookfind.com/ to find out if a book is on Accelerated Reader.
Also, if you would like to see if a library book is available at the Hazlehurst or Crystal Springs library, you may search through the Copiah Jefferson Regional Library System. The web address is: www.copjef.lib.ms.us
Once you log into the site, then you can choose "Online Catalog" to see if the book is available. Make sure you log into the library where you are registered. For instance, Hazlehurst will be the first to pop up (in the upper right hand comer of the Polaris screen). You can use the drop down menu to select another library.
If you have any questions about the Accelerated Reader program, please contact Penny Hartley at phartley@copiahedu.org

AR Requirements
K5 Allen/King-
For the first time this year K5 will begin AR in January. More details will be given at a later date.
1 st Walker/Williams/Marx–
- Begins in November
- Take one test per week minimum. Highest AR grade (percentage correct) for the week goes in the grade book.
- If they have two or more tests in one day, they can take two, and then everybody else is allowed to take tests. If time allows, they can take more.
- Students will go to computer twice a week, and they should try to have a test to take on computer days.
2 nd DonahoeGreer/Selman/-
- 1 pt. per week
- 4 pts. per month
- Do not read above a 3.0 level book unless you have permission from the teacher.
- Must read and take a test on leveled readers (Red Star – group reading and Green Star – independent reading) books from reading series. A grade is given based on the average score of the two tests.
3 rd McCormick/Roberson –
- 5 points per month (this includes Book-It – October – March)
- Each week two leveled readers that accompany the reading series are required (1/2 pt. each) These are read in class twice before taking the test during computer class. A grade is given based on the average score of the two tests.
- ½ pt. books are allowed, but students are encouraged to read 1 – 3 pt. “Chapter Books”
- No level required.
4 th Fink/Gandenberger//Gaddy –
- No grade level requirements on books
- Try to get at least one point per week
- Sometimes the teachers will put a grade in the grade book on a book that the teachers read to the students.
- ½ pt. books are fine.
5 th Teasley/Tyson/Sistrunk
- Any level chapter book
- 3.5 reading level and above for ½ pt. books.
- AR 100 Bonus – To encourage students to strive for the 100 point club, students earning 8 points per month will receive a bonus 100 reading daily grade. These points will be check by the teacher at 3:00 on the last school day of each month. Points from previous months will not “roll-over” into the next month.
6 th Adams/Gaddy/Howard–
- Eight points per month are required. (2.0 points per week for four weeks will give you 8 points.) This will qualify you for Book It rewards, but 8 points per month will not be sufficient for Honors Reading which requires 80 points or for the AR field trip which requires 200 points this year.
- One daily grade will be given in reading each nine week grading period. The Friday before the week of nine weeks/semester tests will be the final day for taking AR tests for the first, second and third grading periods. In order to accomodate Awards Day, the deadline for the last grading period will be announced later.
- 1st grading period: 3:00 p.m. on October 2, 2009
- 2nd grading period: 3:00 p.m. on December 11, 2009
- 3rd grading period: 3:00 p.m. on February 26, 2010
- 4th grading period: TBA
